Our Commitment to Sustainability
Stewards of the Land
At Houff Land and Timber, sustainability is not just a buzzword; it's the cornerstone of our business philosophy. We are dedicated to managing our timberlands in a way that ensures their health, productivity, and biodiversity for future generations. Our approach integrates economic viability with environmental responsibility and social benefit.
Best Management Practices (BMPs)
We strictly adhere to and often exceed Florida's Silviculture Best Management Practices (BMPs). This includes protecting water quality in streams and wetlands, minimizing soil erosion, and preserving critical wildlife habitats during all harvesting and management activities.
Reforestation and Regeneration
For every tract we harvest, we have a comprehensive plan for reforestation. We utilize genetically superior seedlings to ensure rapid growth and healthy forests. This commitment to replanting guarantees that our timber resources are truly renewable.
Wildlife and Biodiversity
We actively manage our properties to enhance wildlife habitat. This includes prescribed burning to promote the growth of native groundcover, maintaining corridors for animal movement, and protecting sensitive areas like gopher tortoise habitats and eagle nests. A healthy forest is a diverse forest, and we work to maintain that balance.
